The Truth About Diabetes – Diet, Nutrition and Treatment

Reversing diabetes naturally is not only possible but a preferable solution to the drugs modern day medicine provides, which serve to treat only the symptoms of diabetes without addressing the root cause.

Treating diabetes naturally is not something pharmaceutical companies want shouted out, despite the fact that countless people are successfully doing so, as diabetic drugs are a lucrative business. Sadly, diabetic drugs are also not without their dangers. Many of the side effects however are justified as the disease symptoms are considered worse. You can live without either.

Reversing diabetes naturally is not about a specific home remedy or natural treatment per se as the solution involves addressing diet and nutrition on a broader scale. Key diet and nutrition factors need to be properly understood, and when appropriately balanced and adjusted, can serve to reverse diabetes successfully and naturally and increase the body’s insulin production. In particular, a re-education in how the human body deals with dietary sugars and refined carbohydrates is fundamental, as is an understanding of the effects of acidity and the importance of an alkaline diet. Regular exercise is also important.

Eliminating foods that promote diabetes is paramount. These include sugar and high-glycemic foods such as refined carbohydrates (white flour/rice/bread/pasta), sucrose, corn syrup and dextrose and commercial, processed oils (virgin coconut oil is a diabetic-friendly alternative).

Dr. Mercola in his new book ‘The No-Grain Diet’ points out how a high-carbohydrate diet can lead to diabetes over time. He writes, “If you regularly consume grains, sweets, and starches, and avoid exercise, your weight will escalate while your insulin levels rise. As your tissues become progressively more tolerant to higher levels of insulin, you may develop what is termed “insulin resistance”, a condition where your tissues have absorbed all the insulin they can retain. This entire syndrome can frequently lead to diabetes, and it’s no surprise that 17 million Americans, nearly 7.3 percent of our population, are diabetic with an astounding 33 percent rise in the prevalence of the disease between 1990 and 1999.”

As well as eliminating foods it is also important to ensure the body’s internal environment is primed for optimum health and resistance to disease. An alkaline diet is imperative here as pH balance is pivotal for the appropriate functioning of body fluids which in turn affect the healthy functioning of all cells within the body. As pH specialist Dr. Robert Young writes, “A cell is only as healthy as the fluids it is bathed in.” He further states that diabetes “is not a disease of the pancreas or the insulin producing beta cells or an autoimmune response, it is from the fluids which the pancreas cells are floating in.”

An acidic system (acidosis) is associated with a wide range of health problems including diabetes, obesity, arthritis, stomach ulcers, bladder and kidney conditions, osteoporosis, heart disease and cancer. Foods that acidify the body include sugar, meat, dairy products, eggs, junk/processed foods, fats and most grains (except millet, quinoa and amaranth). Some of the ‘best’ acid foods include nuts and seeds, beans and lentils, brown rice, oats and fish.

Alkaline foods are largely raw fruits, vegetables and herbs, particularly green veggies, algae (spirulina or chlorella) and grasses such as barley grass or wheat grass.

The diabetic condition leads to a great loss of nutrients from the body in its attempts to eliminate sugar, which in turn leads to the deterioration of eyes and kidneys and damage to nerves and blood vessels. Diabetes also promotes abnormal triglyceride levels which dramatically increases the risk of developing atherosclerosis. This is why cardiovascular disease accounts for 80 percent of all diabetic deaths, with diabetics having more than 400 per cent greater risk of heart attack than non-diabetics.

Are diabetic drugs a solution? Sadly, diabetics taking drugs are 2.5 times more likely to die from heart disease than those treated by diet alone. And then there are the side effects of medication. These include liver problems (jaundice), anemia, skin rashes and in some rare cases, death. There is also the ‘Catch 22′ of insulin resistance. Most anti-diabetic drugs stimulate your already drained pancreas to produce even more insulin which results in a loss of insulin-secreting beta cells making you more diabetic. Diabetic drugs increase fat storage and weight gain, leading to greater insulin resistance and an even worse diabetic condition.

Both oral anti-diabetes drugs and insulin can are not health-friendly options. They hasten the onset of aging, and damage your liver, heart and other organs among other complications.

There is a solution. Diabetes is not cured by treating symptoms with drugs that only perpetuate the condition. You need to address the root cause of diabetes to reverse it and increase your body’s insulin production naturally, with out the complications or side-effects of drugs and medications.

Why don’t we hear about this infomation from the American Diabetes Association? The truth is, the American Diabetes Association are benefiting hugely from the current trend in diabetes. They are funded by pharmaceutical companies who would lose out if people reversed there diabetic conditions.

Discover the Truth About the Connection Between Salt and High Blood Pressure

Do not be caught out because of a failure to appreciate the connection between salt and hypertension.

Salt is a very important element in our diet and has been in use for many thousands of years as both a preservative and to give added taste to our food. Indeed, in spite of the fact that many people in the West take it for granted, in a significant number of countries it is a major economic commodity and many readers will no doubt remember the important role played by salt in bringing British rule in India to and end in the middle of the last century.

Unfortunately however salt can also be a major contributory factor when it comes to the problem of high blood pressure.

Salt is a compound composed of sodium and chloride and when we are considering high blood pressure it is the quantity of sodium we eat that needs to be watched.

Initially it may seem that controlling your salt intake is merely a question of monitoring the quantity of salt which you put into your food while you are cooking and which you add to your food at the table. But, the true problem rests in the fact that most of the salt in our diet is found in the processed foods which most of us purchase and eat every day.

To ensure that you minimize your risk of high blood pressure you should keep your intake of salt under the government’s recommended daily consumption figure of 2,400 milligrams and here are just a few tips to help you do just that:

Do not put salt on the|Remove salt from your} table. As long as you are getting a properly balanced diet your food will contain enough salt without any need to add more while eating, so simply remove the salt from your table.

Learn how to to read food labels. Food labeling laws and most foods now carry nutritional information including the quantity of sodium which the food in question contains. You need to read the label very carefully though as often the sodium figure shown will apply to the whole pack or tin and sometimes it will apply to a single serving.

Buy sodium free or low sodium products. An increasing range of foods today come in sodium free or low sodium options and, where possible, you should choose these over the regular product.

 Purchase low salt snacks. The majority of us like to snack but try to stick to things such as vegetables and fruit and, if you cannot live without your crisps, purchase varieties which are low in sodium or salt free.}

Juvenile Arthritis:the Truth

Juvenile arthritis is usually difficult to diagnose due to the wide range of possible symptoms and severity of symptoms. JA may be suspected when a child presents with joint pain and swelling, fever and unexplained rashes. Juvenile arthritis is often difficult to diagnose and treat. It is one of the most common childhood disorders and affects both boys and girls. JA is not contagious.

If your child shows signs of juvenile arthritis, you likely will be referred to a pediatric rheumatologist. Juvenile arthritis can be sometimes very complicated. There are several types of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, classified based on the joints affected, symptoms and test results. Juvenile arthritis, also known as juvenile chronic arthritis, childhood arthritis and juvenile idiopathic arthritis, has five different subtypes, or classifications, depending on the symptoms found within the first six months of diagnosis. These classifications are pauciarticular, polyarticular, systemic onset, spondyloarthropathy and psoriatic juvenile arthritis.

Juvenile arthritis is not a single disease, but rather a variety of diseases with persistent symptoms of arthritis. Many children Juvenile Arthritis with do not complain of joint pain, although inflammation causes redness, swelling, warmth, and soreness in the joints. Juvenile arthritis is also known as Juvenile chronic arthritis (JCA) It affects children sixteen years old or under. It can restrict a child’s participation in social activities. This depends on the pattern of arthritis present, its duration and the degree of damage that has occurred.

Parents can arrange for children to participate in activities that the doctor recommends. During symptom-free periods, many doctors suggest playing team sports or doing other activities to help keep the joints strong and flexible and to provide play time with other children and encourage appropriate social development. Parents completed ratings of their families’ and children’s behavior and an illness activity rating scale. Siblings in the JCA and comparison groups did not differ in perceptions of their relationships or in their family structure.

Children with juvenile arthritis (JA) have been shown to have reduced muscle and cardiovascular physiology and functional performance compared to normal children. The effects of a specifically prescribed exercise program, focusing on the musculature supporting the inflamed joint, have not been demonstrated. Children cannot do normal activities easily and must be treated aggressively. NSAIDS are given to these patients and sometimes a second line of treatment includes gold shots, sulfasalazine or methotrexate. Children who are very ill also can miss long periods of school, and joint damage can cause long-term joint problems. In addition, the medications used to treat juvenile arthritis can cause other problems, including stomach ulcers, weakened bones and liver damage.

Children who are untreated, or who are treated late in the course of disease have the worst outcome than those who are treated early. In the hands of a physician, who is expert in the management of children with arthritis, even children with severe forms of the disease can have an excellent outcome. Children with this type of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis are particularly susceptible to an eye inflammation called iridocyclitis. These children need to be evaluated often by an ophthalmologist, perhaps as often as every three months, because there may not be any symptoms and permanent eye damage can occur even if other symptoms of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis are under control. Children with the systemic form of arthritis may also have a pink rash that appears on the thighs and lower body. Systemic juvenile arthritis can also affect the lymph system and internal organs, such as the heart and liver.

The Truth You Have to Know About Heart Disease

There is a lot of important information on heart disease that you should be familiar with, not only if you already have heart disease but also just in general, so that you can take the essential steps in order to defend yourself from receiving heart disease in the future the best that you can.

One of the most main pieces of information on heart disease is about what heart disease really is. It is a wide, all-encompassing term and is not a single form or disorder but rather is a set of diverse different diseases and conditions. The term ‘heart disease’ then refers to any problem in any of the different parts of your cardiovascular system, which consist of your heart and as well the blood vessels all through your body.

There are a number of people who are at danger for heart disease and the majority will be those who have a family lineage of heart disease. So, if inherited or hereditary heart conditions are ordinary in your family lineage, then it would be prudent to make certain you discuss this heredity with your doctor and to ensure you maintain regular annual check ups to look for any latent problems. If you do this, then you can evade serious problems down the road.

Heart disease remains one of the key reasons of early death in the world today. While this news might sound depressing on the surface, the actuality is that the sheer volume of early deaths brought about by heart disease has declined considerably in recent years.

The reason for this is that remarkable steps have been achieved in terms of the treatment of coronary disease. The development of drugs designed to stop heart attacks as well as surgeries intended to eradicate problems and reinstate proper heart functioning have become quite extensive and the amount of dead caused by heart disease have been spectacularly reduced.

Origins of heart disease

Another of the most vital information on heart disease is about how it is caused, and there are in fact a number of diverse things that are believed as being accountable for causing heart disease. Although you are likely to hear a lot regarding preventing cardiovascular disease the truth is that sometimes no matter what you do you just cannot stop it.

After all, there are several kinds of heart disease that are inherited, meaning that you are born with them. In addition, there are other forms which are obtained, and normally in this regards you tend to develop them over the course of your life. The difference between these obtained forms and the inherited forms, is that you can typically prevent the obtained forms whereas the inherited forms you cannot.

Heart disease prevention

Perhaps the most significant and valuable information on heart disease of all involves prevention. There have been a number of available preventive measures that can significantly lessen the problems. The awareness of the public has been raised to a great extent in terms of educating people in regards to the benefits of appropriate diet, keeping away from smoking and drugs, and investing time in a strong cardiovascular exercise program intended to make the heart much stronger.

A regular check up with your physician may not prevent all types of heart disease from taking place, but it undeniably can have a major effect on catching a heart problem before it turns into a serious matter. As with any problem or condition, catching the problem early on will provide the momentum for getting treatment as soon as possible. When treatment is carried out rapidly, the ability to avoid or successfully treat the problem before it becomes life threatening is a high likelihood.

Several other preventive measures that you can do are: keep a healthy weight, get at least thirty minutes of work out every day, maintain your cholesterol levels within healthy ranges, control your blood sugar if you have diabetes, control your blood pressure, and make certain that you eat a diverse diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables.

Heart disease research

Heart disease research is critical when it comes to learning regarding what heart disease is and the causes of it, as well as solutions that can be employed to help treat and even prevent heart disease. There are a number of incredible organizations out there that perform heart disease research.

One heart disease research organization in particular is The Research Center for Stroke and Heart Disease, which is an organization that is non-profit, and which was founded in order to raise understanding and prevent stroke and heart disease worldwide. It designs, puts into practice, and evaluates a variety of projects in order to educate individuals and as well as inspire them to adopt certain practices which have been shown to decrease risk factors.

Another heart disease research organizations is the British Heart Foundation, which is an organization that is deemed as being the nation’s heart charity, and which concentrates on three very important things in particular: investing in revolutionary research, supporting and caring for heart patients, and offering fundamental information to help people decrease their own risk of dying prematurely from a heart or circulatory related sickness.

Harvard Medical School is another center that focuses a great part of their concentration on heart disease research, and they have actually been doing this for some decades now. They recommend a vast amount of information on heart disease, such as about what it is, what causes it, new research findings and statistics, and so on.

This research on heart disease is in fact the single thing that can help the grim situation involving heart disease in the world these days, and hopefully sometime in the near future this research will show the way to findings on how heart disease can be totally avoided altogether.

The Truth About Diabetes

Like all complicated matters there are certain misunderstandings regarding Diabetes.

Today I want to dispel some myths regarding diabetes.

Here is a list of the questions that I will be discussing:
Can get diabetes from someone else?
Eating too much sugar causes diabetes
Type 2 diabetes is mild diabetes
People with diabetes eventually go blind
It’s not safe to drive if you have diabetes
People with diabetes can’t play sport
People with diabetes are more likely to get colds and other illnesses
People with diabetes can’t eat sweets or chocolate
People with diabetes shouldn’t eat bananas or grapes
People with diabetes should eat special diabetic foods

Now for some serious myth bashing…

Can get diabetes from someone else?
Although we don’t know exactly why some people get diabetes, we know that diabetes is not contagious – You cannot get it from others. There is a chance that a person whose parents or brothers and sisters have diabetes might get diabetes, particularly Type 2 diabetes. But lifestyle factors also play a part.

Eating too much sugar causes diabetes
Eating sugar does not cause diabetes. Diabetes is caused by a combination of inherited and lifestyle factors. However, eating a diet high in fat and sugar can cause you to become overweight. Being overweight increases your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, so if you have a history of diabetes in your family, a healthy diet and regular exercise are recommended to control your weight.

Type 2 diabetes is mild diabetes
There is no such thing as mild or borderline diabetes. All diabetes is equally serious, and if not properly controlled can lead to serious complications.

People with diabetes eventually go blind
Although diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in people of working age, research has proved you can reduce your chances of developing diabetes complications – such as damage to your eyes – if you:
• Control your blood pressure and glucose levels
• Keep active
• Maintain your ideal body weight
• Give up smoking

It’s not safe to drive if you have diabetes
Providing you are responsible and have good control of your diabetes, research shows that people with diabetes are no less safe on the roads than anyone else. Nevertheless, the myth that people with diabetes are not safe persists

People with diabetes can’t play sport
Pakistan’s famous all-rounder Wasim Akram has diabetes; many other people with diabetes take part in active sports. People with diabetes are encouraged to exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle. Keeping active can help avoid complications associated with diabetes, such as heart disease. There may be some considerations to take into account with your diabetes before taking up a new exercise regime – talk to your doctor for more information.

People with diabetes are more likely to get colds and other illnesses
No. You are no more likely to get a cold or another illness if you’ve got diabetes. However, people with diabetes are advised to get flu vaccinations. This is because any infection interferes with your blood glucose control, putting you at risk of high blood glucose levels and, for those with Type 1 diabetes, an increased risk of ketoacidosis.

People with diabetes can’t eat sweets or chocolate
Sweets and chocolate can be eaten by people with diabetes just like the rest of us, if eaten as part of a healthy diet. Remember that confectionery foods tend to be higher in fat and calories too so for this reason they should be limited especially if you’re trying to lose weight.

People with diabetes shouldn’t eat bananas or grapes
All fruit and vegetables are extremely good for you. Eating more can reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, some cancers and some gut problems. You should aim to eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. This also helps to improve the overall balance of the diet. Eating a variety of different fruit and vegetables ensure you get the maximum benefit.

People with diabetes should eat special diabetic foods
Diabetic versions of foods offer no special benefit. They still raise blood glucose levels, contain just as much fat and calories, are usually more expensive and can also have a laxative effect. The healthy diet for people with diabetes is the same as that recommended for everyone – low in fat, salt and sugar, with meals including starchy foods like bread and pasta and plenty of fruit and vegetables.
