Epidemiology: Asthma – Stable prevalence rates in all age groups will lead to stable case numbers
Introduction
Datamonitor estimates that there were 63.7 million total asthma cases in all ages in the seven major markets (the US, Japan, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK) in 2010, forecasted to rise to 65.7 million total cases by 2020. Due to stable prevalence rates of asthma, population changes are responsible for the small change in the number of cases during this time.
Features and benefits
* Gain insight into market potential, including a robust 10-year asthma epidemiology forecast of current asthma prevalent cases.* Understand the key epidemiologic risk factors associated with asthma.
Highlights
Datamonitor expects to see a small increase in the number of prevalent current asthma cases from 2010 to 2020 in the seven major markets (the US, Japan, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK). The number of asthma cases is expected to increase from approximately 63.7 million cases in 2010 to 65.7 million cases in 2020.
The largest increase in the number of current asthma cases is expected in the US. Between 2010 and 2020, the number of total prevalent cases of asthma will increase by 0.7% annually. The largest decrease will be in Japan, decreasing at 0.2% annually.
Datamonitor estimates that the largest number of cases of asthma will be in women aged between 20 and 59 and in men aged under 20 due to the fact that these are the age groups in which asthma is the most prevalent.
