Before I start getting to deep into all of the lower cholesterol information let me first give you a basic description of what exactly is cholesterol. Cholesterol is a waxy fatty lipid found in the cells and tissues of our bodies. It not only comes from some of the foods that we eat but it also is manufactured by the liver and is needed as a natural function of the human body. Our bodies require a certain amount of fat and cholesterol is part of that requirement in order for us to exist.

Most people, including myself at on point in time, believed that all cholesterol was bad, but now after years of research it has been found that that is not completely true. In fact there are two types of cholesterol. One type is called LDL which is referred to as the bad cholesterol. The other is HDL which is the good cholesterol.

Let’s first take a closer look at LDL or bad cholesterol. LDL can cause us problems because it tends to build up on the artery walls and over time this plaque build-up blocks blood flow. This plaque build-up reduces blood circulation which raises blood pressure, and eventually leads to heart disease or even worse a heart attack.

On the other hand, HDL or good cholesterol helps to reduce plaque by returning excess LDL to the liver and aids in its excretion. So now that you have a better understanding of what cholesterol is and how it affects you, let’s look at specific lower cholesterol information on how to lower the bad LDL and raise the good HDL.

As I mentioned earlier cholesterol comes from two sources. Your body produces it naturally and from the foods that we eat. Unfortunately for some of us our body because of our genetics tends to produce an excess of LDL cholesterol but don’t worry because there are ways to lower your bad cholesterol naturally and safely.

For most of us when we found out that we had high cholesterol our doctor wanted us to start taking a prescription drug. I don’t like and do not take prescription drugs because of the many dangerous side effects. Now don’t misunderstand what I am trying to say because prescription drugs for lowering cholesterol do work. I personally don’t like taking them but if you do then that is okay.

Fortunately there are natural and safe alternatives to prescription drugs that can lower your bad cholesterol and raise the good. The very first thing you need to be aware of is your diet. Certain foods, that are high in saturated fat such as red meat and whole-fat dairy products all contain bad cholesterol. You should try to limit your intake of these foods and instead eat foods that include vegetables, whole grains and fruits. Also to increase your HDL or good cholesterol you can eat foods that are rich in essential good fats like certain fish and walnuts.

Another step to reversing the effects of high cholesterol is cardiovascular exercise but before you get started you should first consult with a physician. I am not surprised that your doctor is a bit unsure what to do now, as he has already prescribed most of the safer alternatives [safer in terms of pharmaceuticals] that he can. His only other choices are a long-acting beta-2 agonist (LABA) or a cortocosteroid inhaler, both of which have worse side effects [and if I'm not mistaken the FDA has put out a warning about LABAs].

You can tell your doctor that you are willing to try these if you really want to take the risk in order to keep running and/or you can try the Buteyko breathing method, which is natural and safe but must be used in conjunction with the meds that you are already on. Everybody [especially teenagers] hates this skin problem. some get really bad acne which can result in scarring while others just get a mild case. Either way we do need to look at our diet and change our thought process when it comes to eradicating these awful blemishes and pimples.

Though there is some debate as to whether changing to a acne free diet actually works, there is enough support out there for it to be realistic as there is enough evidence proving that what we eat may affect our skin [we are what we eat!].

Changes needed in our diet

Diet alone will not clear up any acne problems [but it helps], you will also need to get into the habit of cleaning and moisturizing you skin at least twice a day.

Avoid or limit the following:

Not all of the above mentioned foods will increase you acne, some people are more sensitive than others and therefore will have a breakout. Try eliminating one at a time and see if it helps clear your skin, I am sure you have noticed that after a party, where you were eating handfuls of nuts, you had a break out – try limiting your peanut intake for a few weeks and see if there is a difference [peanuts used as an example, it could also be those greasy savory meatballs or cheesy pizza pieces etc.]

Increase your intake of the following

* whole grains – oatmeal, brown rice, wheat pastas, etc

* fresh vegetables – all vegetables are good for you, remember though not to add any fats or sugars to enhance them [sad but you do need to avoid these]

* fruit – all will be good for you but there are a few that have a very high sugar content, limit these wherever possible

* lean proteins – there is nothing more tasty than that piece of fat on the edge of a perfectly cooked steak, avoid this tasty morsel totally if you have a skin problem. Chicken skin is also a no no, this contains large amounts of fats and can also increase the oiliness that you are trying to clear up.

* hormones – the hormonal increase that happens when we blossom from pre-teenage years into puberty

* birth control pills – starting or stopping the pill can have a hormonal reaction that could cause acne

* hormonal changes – in pregnancy, the poor body goes through some major changes in this period, and while some women bloom and look beautiful there are a few out there that have the opposite reaction to this very normal occurrence

* some medication – while trying to control or cure some other problem a reaction could occur giving you a bad case of those awful pimples

not many of them actually work, and sometimes they are just scams – as i found out! It is much healthier to lose the weight yourself, and you will keep it off :) . when taking pills it helped me lose weight but i was starving all the time anyway and it made me feel sick… I’d try to lose the weight naturally – it is actually much easier tbh

no, it does not help wiht your digestion as it can cause an infection in your colon and large intestine. do not go for it. for constipation, try some pepto-bismol (in the pink bottle) or something for it in the drugstore.
