Naturally Treat Arthritis- The Link between Nutrition and Arthritis

Article by Joe Barton

Is arthritis literally draining the life out of you? If you answered ‘yes’, you should pay close attention to this next sentence. What you eat and drink is determining how much your joints ache! Let me explain.

Over the past centuries, arthritis has been a plague for most civilizations. However, in recent decades arthritis cases have sky rocketed, particularly in developed countries. You would expect just the opposite, right? But still today, in some indigenous, primitive tribes there is NOT one case of arthritis. Even more amazing for these indigenous tribes, men and women live to almost 100 years of age and go on working (planting, gathering, harvesting) up till their dying day. Why is this? The answer to this question is also cure to arthritis.

Arthritis has been denoted as the ‘incurable disease’ but is it? Hundreds of natural health experts say arthritis is curable and is determined by your diet. In fact, you could naturally treat arthritis with a simple 70/30 nutrition rule!

Arthritis-Free Nutrition: A New Way to Eat

Imagine what life would have been like 500 years ago? Now picture what kind of foods you would be eating. It doesn’t take too much time to discover how our diets have changed in the past 500 years. And as we live in this age of McDonalds and fast foods, arthritis cases skyrocket like never before! Could you be arthritis-free by changing your diet? This information might surprise you!

If you are to prevent arthritis from destroying your life you must refrain from processed foods and other acid forming foods. Normally, a healthy diet should be 70% alkaline and 30% acidic. Alkaline foods are typically foods which are still in their natural state (raw and fresh). And acidic foods are typically foods which have been altered through processing, frying, and high-fat cooking.

Therefore, instead of eating acidic foods (cooked and processed), you should be eating mostly raw, fresh vegetables and fruits. Also, reducing the consumption of meats could also be helpful to your arthritis. By eating less meat and more fresh fruits and vegetables, you would be allowing your body to receive more nutrients and keep your acidic levels low. The result of your new diet could change the pain and inflammation affecting your arthritic joints.

The following is a list of alkaline foods (70%) and acidic foods (30%).

Alkaline and Acid Foods

Alkaline foods include: all vegetables (except peppers and beets); all fruits (except blueberries and prunes); flax, millet, quinoa, and amaranth; almonds, pignoli, fresh coconut, chestnuts; alfalfa sprouts, radish sprouts; unsalted butter; eggs; milk; honey; fruit and vegetable juices; herbal teas; most herbs and whey.

Acidic foods include: processed foods; fast foods; all meat and fish (eat sparingly); rice; oats; wheat; cornmeal; popcorn; pasta; most breads; grains; beans; cheese; seeds; nuts; sodas; alcohol; coffee; tea; most yogurts; and most condiments.

How a joint pain remedy is curing my arthritis pain without killing me. www.provailen.com This is my personal story about how i had an accident 20 years ago. I have had 3 spinal surgeries, 3 knee surgeries and i have lots of arthritis issues. I have been taking about 10 different prescription meds, celibrix or celebra my anti-inflammatory medication, vicodin and tramadol for pain, flexeril and soma for muscle relaxers. I have taken these specific meds or similar for about 20 years now, about 8 month ago I woke up with a bleeding stomach ulcer and was vomiting blood. I then had to go see a gastroenterologist, besides my normal orthopedic doctor, i then received Tagament, Peptcin something and Famotidine now i also always had a bottle of tums and the pink stuff peto bismol to fight the late night indigestion. 90 days or so after i was on all this stuff for my stomach, and back and knee i cold not sleep. Imagine i now also have Insomnia and after weeks of virtually no sleep doctor prescribed Ambien a sleeping pill. What really shook me up was when my orthopedic doctor had me doing liver tests every 60 days to monitor my liver, I was told of the problems of anti-inflammatory but honestly I did not think they could be that serious. Now looking back and looking at the cocktail of medications i was on you can tell it would eventually get me. Well liver test in, doctor tells me i have to get off meds or risk permanent liver damage to the point i might need a liver transplant. I

How do you tell the difference between back pain and kidney infection pain?

Question by Courtney Gibson: How do you tell the difference between back pain and kidney infection pain?
I had a kidney infection at the beginning of my pregnancy and my doctor prescribed me an antibiotic to prevent it from coming back and hurting my baby. Well sometimes I forget to take it and now I am experiencing some lower right back pain similar to the pain I had when I had the infection but at the same time i don’t know what pregnancy pains feel like. Could i have another infection or is it just from the pregnancy? What do you guys think?

Best answer:

Answer by Melissa Pursel
Since you had a kidney infection in the past I would talk to you doctor, a simple urine test can determine infection. A kidney infection is pain like on the sides of your lower back near your kidney area, but can radiate around the front of your abdomen, It would be wise just to run it by your doc to make sure :)

What is the difference between CORONARY and CONGENITAL heart disease?

Question by memyselfandi: What is the difference between CORONARY and CONGENITAL heart disease?
I’m filling out a family health history form for my doctor and it’s asking if anyone in my family has had coronary or congenital heart disease. I know my mom has heart disease but I don’t know which kind it is. One of the arteries to her heart was becoming blocked and they had to put a stent in that artery to open it back up – it’s called angioplasty. Is that coronary or congenital? Thanks.

Congenital is a heart condition that you are born with. Anything else is usually coronary.

Relation between your lifestyle and diabetes

In this article we will dwell on lifestyle and its relation to diabetes.

Diabetes is a dark shadow that follows bad life style. Switching over to a healthy life may not get rid of the shadow but it will turn it into a less intense, pale reflection of its former self. Healthy lifestyle includes eating regular diabetic diet meals at the right times especially if we have to balance the effects of any tablets or insulin pumps for diabetics that might have to be taken. What are in our food – carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins, minerals and fiber – enables us to make choices that help control blood glucose levels.

Principles of healthy diabetes meal planning

The principles of healthy eating for a diabetic are no different from that applicable for normal healthy humans. No foods are banned – but some should be eaten less often. Sometimes you might not have a choice about what food is available but generally you can adapt diabetes diet recipes and meals so that you can enjoy food while eating healthily.

The principles of healthy eating are:

• Eat regular small diabetic meals ensuring you include a portion of carbohydrates (I recommend a portion control plates as it makes this process easier) • Eat more high fiber type 2 diabetes diet (including adequate quantities of fruits and vegetables). • Switch to wholegrain – it is tastier and healthier. • Cut down (don’t eliminate) fat. • Dramatically reduce protein from animal sources. • Dramatically reduce (don’t eliminate) sweets and sugar free candies. • Dramatically reduce (don’t eliminate) salt consumption. • Dramatically reduce (eliminate if possible) alcohol consumption.

Diabetes and carbohydrates

When you have diabetes, your body is unable to use foods that contain carbohydrates in the normal way. All foods containing carbohydrates are normally broken down into glucose. Glucose is converted into energy through action of insulin. Underproduction of insulin or insulin intolerance means your blood glucose levels will rise each time you eat carbohydrates. But you still need to eat diabetes carbohydrates otherwise there will be no energy. The trick then is to eating carbohydrates in amounts that will balance out the blood glucose tablets or insulin.

Type 1 diabetics taking short action insulin should eat food about at the same time they take insulin. Type 1 diabetics taking long action insulin should eat five small evenly paced meals.

Type 2 diabetics on the other hand, due to their impaired insulin production or action, should eat foods that take longer to be broken down into glucose. Therefore fruits and diabetic dessert should be consumed after meals. (So that it is queued in the digestive tract). Eat carbohydrates in moderation. If you are taking tablets for your diabetes you will need to take them in relation to your meals. Some tablets work by helping your digestive system break down the meals more slowly while other tablets work by stimulating the Pancreas into producing more insulin. Matching meals times to your medication is therefore important.

There are mainly two different types of diabetes found in the people – Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes is also known as insulin dependent or juvenile diabetes. It is a condition in which there is an absolute lack of insulin. Due to the attacking of the body’s immune system, the beta cells which are present in the pancreas and are responsible for making and secreting insulin die. Thus there are no cells available to make insulin. So in this case the body will die without getting supplemental insulin immediately or in near- immediate future. The only treatment for this type of diabetes is insulin shots. Almost 10% of the people get affected by this kind of diabetes.

Where as in type 2 diabetes, beta cells are present therefore insulin is also present. This type of diabetes is also known as non-insulin dependent diabetes. In this condition the insulin which is produced is less than the amount of insulin required by our body. About 90% people get affected by this kind of diabetes. The treatment of this type of diabetes includes proper diet, activity/exercise, and pills but in some cases insulin also becomes necessary.

There are more differences between type 1 and type 2diabetes –

Usually type 1 diabetes starts during childhood whereas type 2 diabetes is usually diagnosed during adult hood. As type 1 diabetes affects mostly young babies and children, it is known as juvenile-onset diabetes. People suffering from type 1 diabetes lack total insulin whereas type2 diabetics have too little insulin.

Even the causes of type1 and type2 diabetes are totally different. It is not possible to prevent type 1 diabetes where as type 2 can be prevented. But type 2 diabetes may be genetic also. It may be the result of obesity or high blood pressure. The symptoms of type 1 diabetes are very severe. Suddenly the child becomes extremely weak and sick, urination is increased, experience increased thirst, nausea, vomiting, stomach and abdominal pain, excessive fatigue, weight loss and decreased appetite. Immediate medical attention or usually hospitalization is required for the person suffering from these symptoms. On the other hand, type 2 is often diagnosed before the presence of any symptoms.

Even the treatment for type 1diabetes and type2 diabetes are different. Healthier life style, reducing sugar, carbohydrate consumption, doing regular exercises is sufficient to manage the condition. But type1 diabetes cannot be managed so easily. Intake of insulin injection with restricted diet is essential for type 1 diabetes.
