Benefits of Compression Socks for Diabetics

Article by Sara Michaels

Diabetes is increasingly becoming a national health problem, with nearly a tenth of the population of the U.S. having diabetes and many more on track to develop it. With this increase in diabetes, products are being developed to help individuals with the side effects, such as compression socks for diabetics.

A study by researchers Carol B. Feldman and Ellen D. Davis clearly tells us why a diabetic with neuropathic complications – otherwise known as diabetic foot – should use diabetic socks.

Explaining Diabetic Foot

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy, or neuropathic complication, causes pain in the legs and feet and of diabetics. The most probable cause of this condition is injury to the small blood vessels that supply blood to the nerves. Diabetes damages the immune system, thereby reducing a diabetic’s ability to heal injured blood vessels, and tingling foot pain is a part of life for many diabetics.

In addition to neuropathic complication, diabetes can cause a clogging of arteries, which makes them hard and unable to adequately supply blood to the legs, feet and other extremities, also resulting in diabetic foot.

The Benefits of Diabetic Socks

Certain types of socks for diabetics – known as diabetic socks or compression socks – can help reduce symptoms of diabetic feet. Diabetic socks are designed to “fit well, without constricting cuffs, top bands or seams,” and use select materials that cushion the feet against injury and retain less moisture.

Moisture can lead to bacterial infection, which can, in turn, cause ulcers. Compression socks can be constructed out of special synthetic materials that help reduce the chance of foot ulcers by retaining less moisture than normal socks. In addition to bacteria, normal and minor injuries can cause ulcers in diabetics. Diabetics often have decreased pressure sensations which, in conjunction with a decreased ability to heal, can contribute to ulcers. For this reason, socks for diabetics often have heavily padded cushions to reduce the risk of injury.

Shopping for Diabetic Socks

Here are some features to look for when shopping for diabetic socks:

Advanced and improved moisture control. Moisture can lead to infection and ulcers. A good diabetic sock will be made of a material that has a wicking effect, so moisture is pulled away from the skin. With advances in synthetic materials, ideal diabetic socks should be made of a combination of synthetic fabric and wool or cotton.

No constricting cuffs. Diabetic socks should have cuffs and top bands that are not made of constricting elastic material, such as with normal socks. Restrictive cuffs can cause vascular and nerve damage by blocking the flow of blood.

Soft, densely padded cushions. Properly cushioned compression socks reduce the chances of blistering and calluses by decreasing vertical pressure on the feet.

No pressure points or seams. Socks for diabetics should not have seams, which may create pressure points and contribute to foot injury.

Anti-microbial and anti-fungal elements. Certain elements such as spandex and silver fibers are known to help feet “breathe.” These materials are ideal for use in socks for diabetics, as they help reduce moisture and the risk of infection.

Lightly colored. Some researchers and specialists recommend diabetics wear lightly colored socks, so deformation, skin discoloration and wounds are easily noticed and promptly treated.

A comfortable, well fit. Measure your legs before buying compression socks, as whatever socks a diabetic wears should fit well and be comfortable.

The Benefits Of Natural Prostate Health

Article by Emmanuel Aubrey

Men know that it is important to take care of your health as much as women. With diseases like prostate cancer threatening the male body, it clear that men need to be more careful with their health.

Natural prostate health involves giving your prostate the internal protection it needs. That means finding a natural health regimen that will help to prevent your body from wearing down and producing potentially irregular, cancerous cells.

Natural prostate health also involves knowing which type of supplements will protect and nourish your prostate.

A natural approach to prostate health may be your best option in the long run if you are currently not having any prostate problems. If you increase the amount of antioxidants you consume and simultaneously decrease the amount of preservatives you consume, you may be greatly reducing your chances of getting cancer or other prostate irregularities.

Natural prostate health is the best choice that many men are making today to ensure their health, since natural health is about taking care of your body as a whole. The emphasis on the prostate is so that men are made aware that indeed they too can protect themselves from getting prostate cancer.

Natural prostate cancer institutes understand that men need to have the know-how, so that they will not be caught unaware. This is why you should contact your nearest natural health institute before you ever experience irregularities to discuss what options you have.

Let natural prostate health help you all the way, which is the rest of your life. Rather than bombarding your body with chemicals and radiation after you develop cancer, attack it proactively by living a more healthy lifestyle.

Make that commitment to your prostate’s health by committing yourself to a natural health way of life. It is your ticket to ensure that you are not suddenly caught by prostate cancer unaware.

The Benefits of Colonics for New York City Residents

Article by Jane Goldberg

Situated on a huge natural harbor on the Atlantic side of the United States, New York has always led in finding new ways for people to stay healthy and fit. Although it has been practiced for a long time now, colonics has undergone innovations to suit the lifestyles of modern men.

Whether in the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens or in Brooklyn, there are treatment centers that offer colonics as an alternative means to bring wellness to residents and visitors alike.

However, a majority of the population still has no clear understanding of the process or its benefits. So, why does one have to receive colon hydrotherapy and what benefits can it bring to the colon and to the whole body in general?

* Colonics improves metabolism.* It treats constipation, diarrhea, gas, hemorrhoids among others.* Abdominal pains, headaches, and others can be relieved through this therapy.* Colonic therapy is used before and after certain surgeries.

Here are some of the effects that hydrotherapy brings to the colon.

* Colonics breaks down toxic elements in the colon to prevent harm due to assimilation into the blood stream. If left unattended, toxins can accumulate overtime which can cause damage to the colon and will result to a number of ailments that otherwise can be prevented.

* The process of filling and emptying water in and out of the colon exercises the colon muscles thereby improving its functionality.

* The colon does get misshapen by the build up of toxic materials and when this happens, it does not function well. Colonics brings the colon back to its normal form by flushing out the toxins. The stretching action of water in the colon will eliminate constriction and deformation until it regains its former natural state.

* Through the colon, water is assimilated into the body. Therefore, a malfunctioning colon will not properly absorb liquids and this in turn will cause dehydration. With hydrotherapy, the colon will resume this function and hydrate the body as it should.

If you are contemplating on having hydrotherapy, here are the benefits you can derive from it.

* Colonics has a relaxing effect not only on the colon but also on its neighboring organs such as the liver, heart, lungs and intestines.

* The therapy reduces pressure in the abdominal area and relaxes pressure on both the lumbar column and the hips.

* It eliminates constipation and diarrhea without chemicals or drugs.

* The therapy eliminates mucus, gases, toxic bacteria and undigested food materials.

* Garlic and other parasite killing herbs may be added into the liquid and together with alternating water temperatures, colonics helps expel parasites and other harmful bacteria.

* Dysmenorrhea, cystitis and other gynecological disorders can be relieved by colonics.

* As an added benefit, hydrotherapy is used to reduce weight because it increases metabolism.

* The elimination of toxic substances and the decrease in degeneration brought about by this therapy also makes the skin look smoother for a younger look.

The benefits one can get from colonics have been proven by science although there are some sectors that still doubt the facts. New York City residents can see for themselves by going to the nearest treatment center and reap the benefits of this therapy while enjoying a comfortable and relaxing session.

The Benefits of Digestive Enzymes

Article by Mike Westerdal

Digestive enzymes aid in the digestion of the foods we eat. They are found throughout our digestive system-in the mouth, in the stomach and in other places along our digestive track. What these enzymes do is breakdown food into fuel that our bodies can use. There are seven basic types of enzymes-with each having various sub-classifications and serving different functions. The primary types of enzymes involved in the digestive process include protease (for digesting proteins), amylase (for digesting carbohydrates) and lipase (for digesting fats).

Digestive enzyme supplementation has been getting a lot of buzz lately. The rationale for its evolution is threefold: First, though our bodies produce digestive enzymes naturally (we get them from foods too), it is thought that our modern diets-which are often full of refined sugars, saturated fats and empty calories-stress our systems to the point that they don’t function properly. Second, most of the foods we eat are processed to the point that the naturally-occurring digestive enzymes that would normally be present are diminished or eradicated entirely. And finally, it is thought that as we age, our bodies produce fewer natural digestive enzymes.

Proponents of digestive enzyme therapy say that because of these three conditions, enzyme deficiencies result in not only our inability to eat certain foods (like spicy foods) but also in build-ups of toxins and undigested foods in our digestive track.

They say that this leads to the development of various health problems and illnesses including bloating, gas, heartburn, indigestion, acid reflux, bowel problems, food allergies or intolerances, cramping, weight gain and more.

The theory is that we need to restore our bodies’ digestive enzyme natural balance in order to alleviate the problems associated with the deficiencies.

Some nutritionists say that eating more raw foods is one effective way to eliminate these deficiencies. All raw foods contain enzymes, many of which-provided the food is not cooked, heated, processed or irradiated above 118 degrees-will convert to digestive enzymes in our bodies. For the average person though, this is easier said than done-it’s just not always practical or realistic to eat raw foods all the time.

Otherwise, taking digestive enzyme supplements is seen as a means to treat these conditions and restore the natural balance in the body. Digestive enzyme supplements can come from both natural and pharmaceutical sources.

Natural sources of digestive enzymes include animals (like from the pancreas of a pig) and plants (papayas, pineapples, figs and others). Unless a person is being treated for a specific, identified enzyme deficiency, most supplements contain a blend of different enzymes along with herbs, vitamins and/or minerals. They are usually taken in tablet form.

Now on to the big question: Does digestive enzyme supplementation really help? Well, the answer to that question is maybe-it all depends. Crappy answer, right? Not really because some studies have shown that digestive enzyme supplementation can be effective for persons who are suffering from certain conditions related to particular enzyme deficiencies. And there are plenty of people who swear by them. They take them faithfully and say that they definitely have noticed improvements in not just the related conditions, but in their overall health as well.

On the other hand though, if your digestive system functions well-that is to say, you don’t have any identified problems or conditions, then your results may not be so obvious. Because your system is functioning as it should be, any benefits that you obtain from digestive enzyme supplementation might be more difficult for you to notice more so than in the case of a person who is suffering from a particular condition.

The fact is that the whole idea of taking digestive enzyme supplements is still relatively uncharted territory, so the answers are always so clear. If you notice that you are afflicted with any of the conditions mentioned above, then a regimen of digestive enzyme supplements might be just what you need to alleviate the problem. And if you don’t have any of those symptoms or just aren’t sure, you might want to go ahead and give it a try as well-maybe for a month or two to see if you notice any difference.

Unless you are taking diabetes medications or certain blood thinners, there have not been any reported problems from taking digestive enzyme supplements, so there shouldn’t be any harm in taking them. However, you should always err on the side of caution and consult your doctor before starting any supplementation regimen just to be sure that you don’t have any conditions that could potentially put you at risk.

Beta Sitosterol and How It Benefits Prostate Health: FAQs

Question: I am 40 and in good health. Why should I be concerned about prostate health?

All men over 40 should be concerned about prostate health. The prostate gland grows in size as men advance in age. The first spurt of growth is experienced at puberty; the second spurt of growth comes after 40. In many men, this growth may affect bladder functions and may disrupt normal lifestyles.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) about 8 out of 100 men between the ages of 31 to 40 years will experience prostate issues. This increases to 40 to 50 percent in men between 51 to 60 years of age, and to 80 percent in men over 80.

You can see why an aging prostate is a concern that should be proactively met. Proactive measures to maintain a healthy prostate could help you remain active and enjoy your senior years without experiencing prostate issues.

Question: Should ALL men be concerned about prostate health?

Yes, all men should be concerned about prostate health. But if you fall under any one of the categories below, you would need to closely monitor your prostate health.

Men over 40.
Men who are overweight.
Men who are African-American in descent.
Men who have a family history of prostate concerns.
Men who eat a predominantly western diet (more red meat, saturated fats, with less fiber and vegetable intake)
Men who lead a sedentary life with little or no exercise.

Question: What proactive measures can I take to maintain prostate health?

]]>

Modify your diet. Vegetables and fruits should comprise a healthy portion of any diet. Your fiber intake should be between 30 to 35 grams a day. Avoid fried foods and red meat.

Modulate weight. Being overweight is associated with many chronic ailments. Optimizing your weight will not just help you support prostate health, but enhance overall health.

Exercise. Circulation is essential for good health and a regular exercise regimen will help you tone up muscles and ensure all your organs are receiving the oxygen and nutrients they need to support healthy functions.

Regular check-ups with the doctor. Early detection of prostate issues can help you take early action.

Question: I’ve heard a lot about beta sitosterol. What is it and how can it help support prostate health?

Beta sitosterol is a plant fat scientifically known as a phytosterol. Plants like the saw palmetto or pumpkin seeds, which contain beta sitosterol, were traditionally used for enhancing male health, particularly prostate ailments and poor bladder functions. Scientists began studying pumpkin seeds about 50 years ago and validated the use of beta sitosterol as a strong nutrient support for maintaining prostate health.

Today, there is enough research to support the efficacy and safety of beta sitosterol as an herbal therapy to promote prostate health and support healthy urinary flow and functions. In Europe, doctors have been prescribing beta sitosterol for the past two decades for aging prostate troubles. This wide usage and efficacy has popularized the use of beta sitosterol in the United States as well.

Beta sitosterol is considered to be the key nutraceutical for promoting prostate health, but there are other prostate-specific nutrients such as Vitamin D, zinc, selenium and other essential minerals. You can find these vital nutrients in Super Beta Prostate, a comprehensive nutritional supplement support for prostate health. Proactive nutritional support is one of the best ways to support the healthy aging of the prostate!

For a great start to your day that will give you good energy, consider high protein breakfast like a breakfast burrito. First start with a sprouted grain tortilla if you

Ayurstate for Prostate Care (Part 2) – Benefits, How it Works, 250 Synergistic Activities

When you take Ayurstate capsules, you are costuming the highest concentration possible of 50 natural phytonutrients that exert 250 synergistic activities on your body to decrease the size of your prostate and reduce urethra inflammation by re-establishing healthy estrogen-testosterone balance, inhibiting conversion of testosterone to DHT, preventing protein deposits in prostate ducts, toning your bladder, and enhancing immune system response. It will improve your urine flow, semen production, and ejaculation control in a safe and natural manner with no side effects. Ayurstate re-establishes healthy estrogen-testosterone balance by supplying phytoestrogen compounds that mimic the action of estrogen. There is growing evidence that estrogens play a role in the etiology of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). This is based on the fact that BPH occurs when men have elevated estrogen levels and their prostate tissue exhibits increased sensitivity to estrogen. Excess estrogen also reduces testosterone production by saturating testosterone receptors in the hypothalamus. Phytoestrogens compete with natural estrogens for estrogen receptors on cells. By binding to the receptors, phytoestrogens prevent the negative impact of estrogen on your prostate and discourage excessive estrogen production. Ayurstate also inhibits an enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT (dihydrotestoterone) which binds to receptors in prostate cells and stimulates tissue growth around the urethra. This growth
