www.CactusCanyon.com – Dog Arthritis Arthritis is one of the many ailments shared by dogs and humans. In fact, canine arthritis is one of the most common reasons for veterinary visits in the US Signs of Dog Arthritis Many arthritis symptoms are mistaken for signs of other illness. Afflicted dogs may have difficulty getting up, limp slightly, be less energetic and alert, and appear stiff. They may also gain weight, seem afraid to go up stairs or jump, be less playful, or otherwise undergo an attitude change. Diagnosis If your pet shows these signs of dog arthritis for two weeks, take him or her in for a visit to the vet. Your dog’s doctor will perform an exam, which may include an x-ray. Treatment Treatment of dog arthritis may include a change of diet and the addition of some exercise for weight management. Your vet will likely suggest a supplement including omega fatty acids or chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine. Pain management can include a variety of prescription medications. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are the most commonly used, and your veterinarian may suggest using an over-the-counter remedy in conjunction with the prescription drug. The key factors in ensuring your dog’s health, comfort, and safety when it comes to dog arthritis are twofold. Seeing your veterinarian as quickly as possible after noticing symptoms is essential to reducing or eliminating any pain your dog is experiencing. Only giving your pet medications prescribed or suggested by your

Glucosamine for Hip and Knee Arthritis

I just reviewed the results of a recent study that confirms how glucosamine sulfate benefits those who suffer from knee or hip osteoarthritis. I’ve created a short video that explains how this study was conducted and the positive impact glucosamine sulfate had in reducing pain, swelling, stiffness and in improving joint function in only 6 weeks. This is great news for those who suffer from this debilitating condition. Be sure to pass along this information to any friends or family members whom you think would want to know about this “good news story”…..Dr. James Meschino, DC, MS, ND, ROHP, RAP

Treatment Arthritis

Article by jannet

Arthritis is one of the most enveloping diseases in the United States and is the leading source of disability. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention one out of every three Americans is affected by one of the more than 100 sorts of arthritis. Arthritis merely means a aching condition of the joints. The term Arthritis is actually a Latin word that means inflammation of joints. Arthritis causes inflammation of the joints due to damage to the cartilage. Patients suffering from arthritis could suffer from long-term joint damage, which could ultimately lead to disability from severe arthritis pain.

Arthritis has been around for centuries, and interestingly natural remedies for arthritis treatment have been tried and tested for almost as long. Natural remedies for arthritis treatment can be viewed as more favorable as they have fewer (if any) side effects; they cost less, and are easily accessible. Specific foods have anti-inflammatory properties. Including the spices tumeric, ginger, and cumin in your diet, for instance, calm inflammation without the negative side effects of many prescription arthritis drugs. A teaspoon of black sesame seeds, drenched in a quarter cup of water and kept overnight, has been found to be efficient in preventing frequent joint pains. The water in which the seeds are soaked must also be taken along with the seeds first thing in the morning.

Lime has also been found useful as a home remedy for arthritis. The citric acid found in lime is a solvent of uric acid, which is the chief cause of some types of arthritis. The juice of one lime, diluted with water, may be taken once a day, if possible first thing in the morning. Exercise: could be considered the most common form of arthritis treatment, but is often the one which is least adhered to. The natural repetition of a basic exercise regime will ensure that your joints and muscles stay used and less likely to stiffen from the effects of arthritis. When we move the body, we normally use the joints. Arthritis is a disease of acidity. The body become acidic when we eat too much protein and carbohydrate, especially refined carbohydrates like sugar and white flour. Eating 80% of the diet as vegetables is a healthy way to bring the body back into the correct pH range. Once it comes back into the correct range, arthritis will often disappear.

Painkillers or analgesics such as those containing acetaminophen may be prescribed to treat pain but they will not do anything for the inflammation. If you do not suffer from inflamed joints, analgesics will provide temporary relief from arthritic pain. They are also available as over-the-counter drugs while stronger doses require a prescription. Physical therapy for hand arthritis has also proven to be very effective as a treatment option. There are specific exercises, which can help in loosening the stiffened joints caused by the hand arthritis. Steroids can also be injected locally into the affected area, however this is only a form of pain relief, and certainly not a long-term treatment option for hand arthritis.

Changing your diet to predominately fruits and raw veggies, like I did, can turn your arthritis pain around almost overnight. More and more doctors are investigating the benefits of alternative therapies and most don’t object to patients trying them. One should not only search for relief of arthritis pain but work on preventing it. Excessive weight can make arthritis pain worse, especially if the affected areas are the ankles, knees, hips and spine. It may benefit these areas more if a sensible diet and exercise program are used in order to lose weight gradually. Avoid foods that seem to make your symptoms worse and include only healthy food in your meals. Try to engage in active and productive activities that promote movement. You may need to take it easy on certain joints, but that doesn’t mean you should lose it to arthritis.

Best Treatment For Arthritis

Article by Adrian Daddario

What is rheumatoid arthritis?Arthritis is the leading cause of disability in the United States. It can occur at any age, and literally means pain within a joint. Arthritis is an umbrella term for a range of conditions which cause pain and swelling of the joints. Arthritis is a condition that occurs in various joints in the body, especially in the knees, hips and spine. It can affect any joint, but the shoulder is affected infrequently. When arthritis occurs the cartilage that covers the ends of the bones making up the joint breaks down and often flakes off into the joint. The joint becomes swollen and stiff and the lining tissue of the joint (the synovium) becomes overgrown. Frequently, spurs will develop around the margins of the joint and can, sometimes, break off inside. These conditions occur as a result of damage or wear and tear on the body and are more prevalent over time. The body is a superb piece of machinery which works very well on a daily basis but like any machine, is prone to niggles and complications over time. One of these problems is arthritis. The pain can vary from mild to very severe, depending upon many factors, including the severity of the disease, the type of arthritis. The condition may occur spontaneously or as a late result of previous trauma, such as fracture or dislocation. It also may occur as a result of an inflammatory disease such as rheumatoid arthritis. What causes arthritis and how do you know if you have it?Although it is thought that the sufferer’s genetics play an important role in the development of this disease, unfortunately, the exact cause of rheumatoid arthritis has not yet been identified; what is known is that when it occurs, the body’s immune system suddenly turns against itself destroying the tissues found in and around the joints. This is why the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis can include extreme pain at the joints (this normally occurs in pairs, for example – both elbows, both knees, etc.).Arthritis is on the increase, and the statistics show that this figure is growing fast. Therefore an understanding of what arthritis is and what the signs are is important, so that sufferers can get an early diagnosis and implement relevant lifestyle changes before the symptoms become too serious. If you have a joint which becomes stiff, feels heavy and fatigues easily, then arthritis may be present. If you are unlucky and the doctor informs you that you are suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, the news can be quite devastating. However, understanding this disease is one way that you could come to terms with it, so that you know what to expect and can work out a plan of action to control it in the best manner you can.Arthritis also called rheumatoid arthritis, shouldn’t be confused with the term “rheumatism”, which has taken on the meaning of any aches or pains related to aging, or weather. Some studies have demonstrated a link between arthritis and certain weather conditions with low barometric pressure and high humidity. There is a theory that low pressure systems, usually associated with damp or rainy conditions, could cause joints to swell. The swelling causes stiffness of the joints, as well as pain. High humidity may have an effect through other mechanisms. We know that arthritis symptoms can be worse when the muscles around the joint aren’t strong or supple enough. Cold weather stiffens muscles, so this may also worsen arthritis symptoms. Each person is different in how weather can affect them. Some people say they can predict rain based on their arthritis, and others say that they feel worse during or after a storm. This simply shows that the correlation between weather and arthritis is poorly understood.
