The countries like the United States are suffering with a number of death cases due to heart disease every year. The term of this disease has many types and segments that generally affect the heart. Some of the heart disease that are very common like heart disease due to high blood pressure, Coronary Heart Disease, Ischemic Heart Disease, Tachycardia, heart murmurs etc. The heart diseases like the vascular heart disease, colonial heart disease and others can be cured completely. The main cause of a heart disease is mental stress, high blood pressure or hypertension, high level of cholesterol, overweight and/or obesity and many cases the heart disease also occurs due to stress. The habit of excessive smoking or a heavy intake of alcohol is also a great reason of heart diseases. The occurrence of heart disease is also affected by gender and sex. It also occurs due to hereditary issues. In many cases, it has been observed that if in a family, one of the parents are suffering with any sort of heart disease, the children can also be affected. Nowadays, the occurrence of heart disease also has roots in the growing environmental changes and pollutions and other toxins. Many of the stressful situations help to increase the blood clotting in the heart and also lead to hypertension. Some of the sex hormones are also responsible for a heart disease. The women who are in the age of sixty-five or seventy or in the menopausal condition face a drastic change in the sex hormones and have severe kinds of sickness in the heart.

The PSA tests are done especially in case of a cancer in the prostrate in males. The PSA is actually a type of protein, which is known as Prostrate-specific antigen. Antigen is manufactured in the prostrate. The test actually measures the level of this type of protein in the human blood. Thus, this test is done by taking a blood sample. The PSA medically is also known as tumor marker or biological marker. The US Food and Drugs Administration or FDA also ahs approved the medical use of PSA test. In the test process, the physical experts take blood from the veins, usually from the elbows. Here, the medical experts first clean the place from where he is going to take the blood and the enfold the upper portion of the arm with a band, then he gives pressure on the affected part to let the veins swell with blood and then he takes a particular amount of blood from the body. The medical experts say that the test can be useful if done including a Digital rectal Exam or DRE, especially in case of a prostrate cancer in those patients who are either 50 years old or more than that. In the DRE test process, the medical experts verify the prostrate gland the rectal wall to check the blisters and other abnormal growths. The FDA has also approved that the PSA test also can be useful if a person has a case of re-occurrence of prostrate cancer.

The person who suffers with a high level of blood sugar is diagnosed with diabetes. The condition of diabetes can also interrupt in the functioning of other body parts. The reason of the various complications of diabetes has its roots in some of the other body functions and some of the medicinal affects on the body. It is very widespread in the United States. Many of the patients do not even know that have the sickness. This is a sickness where the human body faces problem to keep a balance between the sugars and is not able to use insulin in an adequate amount. The insulin is a type of hormone, which helps the body to convert the level of starches, sugar and many of the other food into energy to boost the other body cycles. If a person has an invariable level of high amount of glucose, it is been said that the person has diabetes. The diabetic person will also have difficulties in the functions of eyes, heart, feet and even on the liver and kidney. The diabetes Mellitus mainly cause the condition of diabetes. The sickness generally is of three types, Type 1 diabetes, and Type 2 and Gestational diabetes.

Article by Brian Krans

Hypertensive heart disease is a group of conditions linked to high blood pressure-coronary artery disease, heart failure, and an enlarged heart due to overexertion from constricted or hardened blood vessels.

High blood pressure makes the heart pump harder and can cause the heart muscle to thicken the heart’s walls, thus causing hypertensive heart disease. The harder the heart has to pump to circulate blood around the body, the heart becomes prematurely worn and can develop problems. That is when congestive heart failure or cardiac arrest may occur.>br>

Hypertensive heart disease can not only be caused by high blood pressure, but it can also lead to heart disease, stroke, thickened blood vessels, and heart attack. It can also cause sudden death.

Hypertensive heart disease treatments include exercise, dieting, and weight loss. Some pharmaceutical and over-the-counter medication can also help treat symptoms of the disease, including:

Beta blockersDiureticsCalcium channel blockersAngiotensin II receptor antagonistsACE (angioensin-converting enzyme) inhibitorsIntravenous drugs may be given if hypertension is severe enough.

Here’s some important hypertensive heart disease information: a low-cholesterol diet, regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, and avoiding alcohol and tobacco are some of the easiest ways to cut down your risk of developing hypertensive heart disease.

Other risk factors for hypertensive heart disease include smoking, excessive alcohol use, obesity, and a family history of the disease. Your risk also increases after the age of 50.

Checking your blood pressure often, reducing sodium intake, and carefully controlling pre-existing conditions like diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and other diseases that can affect your blood flow.

Also, eating a diet rich in whole grains, poultry, fish, fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy products can also help.

Symptoms of hypertensive heart disease include:

Shortness of breathFatigueIrregular pulseWeight gainNauseaBloatingSwelling of feetChest painDizzinessSweatingThe prognosis for hypertensive heart disease depends on how enlarged the left ventricle has become due to overexertion. However, several studies have shown that current treatments can reverse hypertension if the disease is noticed early enough.

Article by Sophia

Periodontitis is a set of inflammatory diseases affecting the periodontium, i.e., the tissues that surround and support the teeth. Periodontitis involves progressive loss of the alveolar bone around the teeth, and if left untreated, can lead to the loosening and subsequent loss of teeth. Periodontitis is caused by microorganisms that adhere to and grow on the tooth’s surfaces, along with an overly aggressive immune response against these microorganisms. A diagnosis of periodontitis is established by inspecting the soft gum tissues around the teeth with a probe (i.e. a clinical exam) and by evaluating the patient’s dental x ray to determine the amount of bone loss around the teeth. Specialists in the treatment of periodontitis are periodontists; their field is known as “periodontology” or “periodontics”.The 1999 classification system for periodontal diseases and conditions listed seven major categories of periodontal diseases, of which the last six are termed destructive periodontal disease because they are essentially irreversible. The seven categories are as follows: gingivitis, chronic periodontitis, aggressive periodontitis, periodontitis as a manifestation of systemic disease, necrotizing, ulcerative gingivitis/periodontitis, abscesses of the periodontium, combined periodontic-endodontic lesions. If you’re worried about heart disease, you can easily spend thousands of dollars each year trying to prevent it, paying hand over fist for prescription medicines, shelves of healthy cookbooks, fitness machines for your home, and a gym membership.Or maybe not. A number of recent studies suggest that you may already have a cheap and powerful weapon against heart attacks, strokes, and other heart disease conditions. It costs less than and is sitting on your bathroom counter. It is none other than the humble toothbrush.”There are a lot of studies that suggest that oral health, and gum disease in particular, are related to serious conditions like heart disease,” says periodontist Sally Cram, DDS, a spokeswoman for the American Dental Association. So can preventing periodontal disease, a disease of the gums and bone that support the teeth, with brushing and flossing prevent heart disease?Could Periodontal Disease Cause Heart Attacks? So could periodontal disease, gingivitis, or another dental disorder, pericoronitis (when gum tissue around the molars becomes swollen and infected) cause heart attacks and strokes? It’s far too early to say.But even if periodontal disease isn’t actually causing heart disease, the connection could still be important. For instance, periodontal disease might be an early sign of cardiovascular problems. Heart disease can be hard to catch early, because many of the conditions that precede it have no symptoms. You won’t ever feel your arteries hardening or your cholesterol rising. But you might notice bleeding or painful gums.If further studies bear out the connection between periodontal disease and heart disease, the next step would be to try treatment, Desvarieux says. Might taking antibiotics not only help heal oral infections but, as a result, also lower your risk of heart disease? No one’s sure, but it’s possible. It’s still too early for official preventive steps, since researchers don’t know exactly how heart disease and periodontal disease are connected. You can find more dental lab equipment and dental supplies at zetadental.co.uk.

Heart diseases account for a leading cause of death in the world. The disease may result due to various factors, out of which some may be avoidable and a few may be unavoidable. For this, you should be aware about how do you get disease.

Heart is a vital organ that is responsible for pumping blood to every other organ of the body and serves as a central part of the cardiovascular system. It is important to keep the heart healthy to stay healthy and much of it depends upon a healthy lifestyle that includes less of fatty substances, nutrient-rich diet, regular exercise and less or no smoking and tobacco use.

Types of Heart Disease:

Cardiovascular system is a complex mechanism and any disorder in it may be termed as heart disease. However, the disease can be further classified into sub-types, such as:

Heart Failure – This is also termed as congestive heart failure. This is a type of chronic disease and rarely appears suddenly. The condition is characterized by inefficiency of the heart to pump adequate amount of oxygen-rich blood.

Cardiovascular Disorders – These disorders are illustrated by the defects in the cardiovascular blood vessels (veins and arteries). Such disorders are generally related to atherosclerosis, wherein the artery walls are thickened due to accumulation of cholesterol or any fatty substance.

Structural Heart Disease – This is characterized by defective structure of the heart valves or chambers. This is usually present since the time of birth.

Risk Factors and Causes of Heart Diseases:

There are various types of heart disease and so are the risk factors associated with it. However, a few disorders such as structural defects may not be prevented by self but certainly, to some extent, can be avoided by the mother while the baby is in the womb.

Plaques – Fatty substances form plaque and may build-up in the arteries’ walls thereby restricting the normal blood flow and causing heart diseases. Hence, avoiding fat-rich products is advised to prevent heart diseases.

Smoking and Tobacco – Smoking is a common risk factor for many disease, including cancer. Smoking and use of tobacco may be hazardous as it deteriorates the heart muscles and blood vessels leading to the restriction of normal heart functioning i.e. pumping of blood.

Lack of Exercises – This may cause cholesterol accumulation in the heart and hardening of the arteries. Regular and daily exercise reduces the possibility to get any fatal heart disease.

Heart disease is a worrying reason for a significant percentage of population around the globe. To help prevent this disease and consequent mortality, it is good to know how do you get disease. Old age, family history, high blood pressure may be some of the common risk factors to contribute to heart disease in people.

Heart Attack Risk Factors address the two types of risk factors associated with heart attacks, factors that a person can control and factors they cannot. Knowing the risk factors is so important because having just one risk factor doubles a person’s chance of developing heart disease.
What’s all the noise about?

The strongest muscle in the human body is only the size of a human fist. Yet the amount of energy produced by that muscle over a lifetime of 80 years is enough to light up 30 lakh wooden matches, or cook 7500 hamburgers, or keep a 60 watt light bulb continuously lit for one-and-a-half years! That is the power of an average human heart. Imagine the possibilities that could be attained by such a powerful organ if trained and nurtured properly. Sadly though, this wonderful gift of nature, that quietly goes about its work, is taken for granted or worse still ignored and abused. The consequences are obvious and apparent. In 2004, ignorance coupled with abuse resulted in 72 lakh deaths worldwide as a result of a dysfunctional heart. Coronary heart disease (CHD), the name by which it is known formally, was the leading cause of death and accounted for 12.2% of the total number of deaths that year. The statistics are no different for India; the same year 14.6 lakh deaths out of a total of 1.3 crore occurred because of coronary heart disease. Presently more than 72 lakh men and women die each year of CHD, the world over. According to estimates and current trends, almost 26 lakh Indians are predicted to die due to coronary heart disease by 2020.How does it kill?

Pipes called arteries make way for the blood to be pumped out of the heart, channeled throughout the body, and brought back. The arteries that lead it (blood) out of the heart to a finer group of pipes called capillaries decrease in size gradually while the ones that bring blood back keep increasing in size. This remarkable system becomes susceptible and vulnerable to assault, finally leading to a breakdown when the walls of the arteries supplying blood to the heart get clogged by waxy and oily substances commonly known as cholesterol and fatty deposits (or plaques). The decreasing levels of blood supply starve the heart of oxygen and vital nutrients required for it to work properly. This can cause chest pain, technically known as angina. However, if the blood supply to a portion of the heart muscle is cut off entirely or if the required energy of the heart becomes much greater than its actual blood supply, the most likely result is an injury to the heart muscle, commonly known as a heart attack. In most cases, the attack is usually not preceded by any visible symptom, thus leading the victim to a sudden death!Who gets killed?

Contrary to popular assumptions that non-communicable diseases (NCD) affect wealthy nations, latest statistics suggest that over 80% deaths caused by cardiovascular diseases (CVD) take place in low and middle-income countries. Also the occurrence is almost equal among men and women. Unless intensive and comprehensive measures in prevention, diagnosis and treatment are adopted, it is expected that 82% of the future increase in Coronary heart disease will occur in developing countries like India. What kills?

“The gods are just and our pleasant vices/ Make instruments to plague us.” William Shakespeare’s wise articulation holds true for our present predicament. Cardiovascular diseases, especially coronary heart disease and stroke may occur due to genetic predisposition or environmental influences. However, the rise of the incidence of CHD in India may be attributed mainly to unhealthy and altered lifestyles than to genetic factors. Our insistent need to mimic foreign cultures and adopt lifestyles inimical to healthy living is duly reflected in the current scenario of physical and mental health in India. Consumption of tobacco, alcohol and fast food, coupled with physical inactivity, obesity and low consumption of vegetables and fruits has led to high blood pressure, high cholesterol and higher levels of stress eventually ending up with cardiovascular diseases. Approximately 75% of cardiovascular diseases can be attributed to high blood pressure, high levels of cholesterol, tobacco use, physical inactivity, obesity and unhealthy diets. If only we could help ourselves from indulging in our vices, so many untimely deaths could have been prevented. When does it kill?

A Chinese proverb says, “Encased in fat in youth, encased in a coffin in middle age.” Popular myths that heart diseases usually affect older people as a result of ageing, is fast losing ground. In reality, the risks for cardiovascular diseases start in youth. It is estimated that around 1.8 crore children around the world under five years of age are overweight. Also, 14% of students aged 13 to 15 years around the world smoke cigarettes. The average age for the onset of such non-communicable diseases has also declined and younger people in the age bracket of 25 -40 are increasingly becoming susceptible to heart-attacks and strokes. Can it be prevented?

Old habits die hard. However, it is preferable that habits die instead of living, breathing human beings! Intensive studies have revealed that while genetic factors play a part, an unhealthy lifestyle affects and influences 80% to 90% people dying of coronary heart disease. Developed countries in the West – where the death rates from coronary heart disease have decreased – implemented policies related to improved prevention, diagnosis and treatment. A significant change in lifestyle, in particular reduced smoking among adults and lower average levels of blood pressure and blood cholesterol improved the mortality rate.

According to a report published by WHO, “of all coronary heart disease patients who die within 28 days of the onset of symptoms, about two-thirds die before reaching hospital. This highlights not only the need for early recognition of the warning signs of a heart attack, but also the need for prevention.” The early warning signs can be detected through regular (at least once-a-year) preventive medical health checkups. If any anomaly is detected, and depending on the stage of the damage done, remedial measures may range from adopting a healthier lifestyle to surgical interventions like angioplasty, coronary artery bypass, heart transplant etc.
