The concentration of most insulins available in the United States is 100 units per milliliter. A milliliter is equal to a cubic centimeter. All insulin syringes are graduated to match this insulin concentration. There are four categories of insulins depending on how quickly they start to work in the body after injection: * Very rapid acting insulin * Regular, or Rapid acting insulins * Intermediate acting insulins * Long acting insulin.
Firstly you need to know what Diabetes actually is. It is a metabolic condition where the body is unable to automatically regulate blood glucose levels, resulting in excessively high levels of sugar (glucose) in the blood. Put into simple terms, diabetes is a condition in which your body cannot handle the sugar in food.

Diabetes is something we unfortunately hear about often these days. It is no longer just a condition of the elderly, as we are seeing dramatic increases in the number of young people being affected by diabetes. Diabetes is a serious disease and should not be ignored, it is a complex health problem and a national challenge. Diabetes is a life-long, chronic disease that affects as many as 16 million Americans. It is the number one cause of acquired blindness in both USA and UK.

Diabetes can be described as type 1, type 2, or gestational diabetes. Out of these, type 2 diabetes is the most common form, accounting for around 90% of cases. This type of diabetes is strongly associated with overweight and obesity. This type of diabetes is also referred to as adult-onset or maturity-onset diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is typically recognized in childhood or adolescence, and is marked by a total or near-total lack of insulin. Type 1 diabetes is also often referred to as insulin-dependent diabetes. Gestational diabetes is common, and is a type of diabetes that develops only during pregnancy, usually between the 24th and 28th week.

Pre-diabetes is potentially the early stage of diabetes, where glucose (sugar) levels in the blood become disturbed, and are higher than normal but not high enough for a diagnosis of diabetes. The best way to diagnose pre-diabetes is by a blood test; a fasting blood sugar (FBS), or an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). If pre-diabetes is not controlled, it may well progress to diabetes.

Diabetes is controllable even though there is no medical cure. It is a growing health problem, with type 2 diabetes being diagnosed in larger numbers of children and teenagers. People with type 2 diabetes – often completely misunderstand, or simply ignore the crucial moment when blood sugar tests reveal that diabetes is progressing. The good news is that type 2 diabetes is largely preventable, as it is often linked to obesity.

Sometimes people have symptoms but do not suspect diabetes. The early symptoms of untreated diabetes mellitus are related to the increased blood glucose levels. However, the symptoms of diabetes may not appear until blood glucose levels are above approximately 15mmol/l or higher. Symptoms can also be so mild that you might not notice them. The symptoms of diabetes vary and can be subtle. The first step in preventing or delaying the onset of diabetes is recognizing the risk factors, as well as signs and symptoms of diabetes.

Without treatment, the main symptoms of diabetes are unusual thirst, excessive amounts of urine, tiredness, and weight loss and muscle wasting. Symptoms may come and go. The symptoms of diabetes vary from person to person. Symptoms partly depend on the type of diabetes a person has and how long it has been untreated. If you think you have the symptoms of diabetes it is very important to seek advice from your physician.

The following article on diabetes is appropriate for all, no matter what age.

Diabetes is a serious disease. But the startling truth is that diabetes is reversible.

Diabetes is the number one cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD). This disease is a

condition where the body is unable to automatically regulate blood glucose levels, resulting

in too much glucose (a sugar) in the blood. Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects as

many as 16 million Americans.

Diabetes is divided into two major groups. Type 1 diabetes is one of the most common

childhood diseases. Type 1 Diabetes is called Juvenile Diabetes as the onset of it begins in

childhood. Type 2 diabetes is most common form of diabetes, accounting for 90% of cases.

They concluded that most cases of type 2 diabetes is preventable by choosing a healthier

lifestyle. The problem, in a nutshell, is that type 2 diabetes is not a simple disease

caused by a single gene. The best way to control type 2 diabetes is with diet and exercise.

There has been a great deal of buzz about stem cell research and diabetes.

Type 2 Diabetes is more common than Type 1 Diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is a life-long disease

marked by high levels of sugar in the blood. Conditions associated with type 2 diabetes

include hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia. Type 2 diabetes may account for about 90% to 95% of

all diagnosed cases of diabetes. Up to two-thirds of people with type 2 diabetes have no

symptoms. Obesity is the single most important risk factor for type 2 diabetes. An estimated

20% of all cases of new onset type 2 diabetes are in individuals between the ages of 9-19.

The more you know about type 2 diabetes, the more you’ll be able to take the right steps to

take control of your condition.

What is the relationship between insulin resistance and diabetes. Insulin resistance can

occur long before the onset of type 2 diabetes. Insulin resistance is an important marker of

diabetes risk. You can counter insulin resistance through modest weight loss and exercise.

It is now generally accepted that insulin resistance and ß-cell dysfunction are major

factors involved in the development of diabetes. Some scientists think a defect in specific

genes may cause insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes is a serious disease. Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness, renal failure,

and amputation in the United States. Diabetes is divided into two major groups. Type 1

diabetes is one of the most common childhood diseases. Type 2 diabetes is most common form

of diabetes, accounting for 90% of cases. Diabetes is a growing global problem of

devastating social and economic impact. But the startling truth is that diabetes is

reversible. The first step in managing diabetes is to commit yourself to the care of a

health professional.

A href=”http://brum72.dwarrior.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=DIAB/”>Here’s a Complete Step-by-step Program That Normalizes Blood Sugar, Eliminates Insulin Resistance And Restores Pancreatic Function! This ebook will help you fight type 2 diabetes and win.

Diabetes is a disease that is viewed as a group of metabolic conditions. Diabetes, sometimes referred to as Diabetes Mellitus, has four different stage classifications.

These stages include the following designations;• Type 1 Diabetes• Type 2 Diabetes• Gestational Diabetes• Pre-Diabetic

Now let’s take a closer look at each stage of this disease

Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes also known by the names insulin-dependent diabetes, ketosis prone diabetes, childhood diabetes, and juvenile diabetes. It should be noted that some of these terms may be outdated. Right now in the US, type 1 diabetes is diagnosed in 5 to 10 % of Americans.

Type 1 diabetes is characterized as the body’s inability to produce insulin. When the body does not produce natural insulin this happens because the pancreas, which has what are called beta cells are being destroyed and as this happens, insulin is no longer being produced.Diagnosis of type 1 diabetes is a disease that can be diagnosed throughout someone’s life time, but it usually is diagnosed in young adults and in most often in children.

While diabetes knows no boundaries as far as who can have the disease, type 1 diabetes is diagnosed usually more in Caucasians than any other segment of the population including African Americans or Latinos. It should also be noted that the disease is equally spread out between females and males.

Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is characterized as insulin resistance. This resistance combined with the body’s inability to secrete insulin causes our body’s tissues to be less responsive to insulin and is believed to involve our insulin receptors.

Type 2 diabetes is prevalent in adults whose ages range from age 50 and older, but it can sometimes be diagnosed in young children. A main cause of the disease is due to obesity and or just being overweight and not doing enough or any type of exercise. Leading a sedentary lifestyle can be very detrimental to a person who has type 2 diabetes.

Another factor that is directly related to the lifestyle of the type 2 diabetic is high blood pressure glucose levels. High blood pressure glucose levels, can cause issues with every organ in the body over time and may eventually cause high blood pressure, kidney failure and nerve damage. Fortunately, type 2 diabetes can be controlled through life style adjustments such as exercise, proper medications and diet.

Gestational Diabetes

Diabetes that occurs in pregnancy is referred to as Gestational Diabetes, it can resolve at birth. There are several risk factors that can account for this occurrence which include the following…

• Being pre-diabetic

• Having given birth previously to a child weighing 9 pounds or more

• Being overweight

• Diabetes runs in your family. This form of the disease seems to affect just about all classes of people including Asian Americans, Latino Americans, and African Americans.

At an estimated 5 % or higher of American women who have this particular type of diabetes that translates to around 200,000 American women or more. The main reason for Gestational Diabetes is due to women not being able to metabolize glucose properly. In this case the body is able to produce or secrete the proper amounts of insulin, but unfortunately due to the condition known as insulin resistance, the body does not allow the person suffering from this disease to utilize the insulin properly.

Pre-Diabetic

What exactly does it mean to be someone who is a pre-diabetic? Pre-diabetes occurs when a person’s blood sugar ( glucose ) levels are above what are considered to be normal levels, but these levels are not considered to be high enough to be diagnosed as actually having a full blown diabetic condition. Tests that are performed in order to diagnose this condition are a Fasting Plasma Glucose test or FPR for short, or an OGTT which is an Oral Glucose Tolerance test. Both of these tests involve the person to fast overnight and then have the test conducted early in the morning, before a meal is consumed.

The OGTT test is performed in two stages; the first test is administered after the person has fasted and then again two hours later, after glucose rich drink is consumed by the patient.Knowing if you’re pre-diabetic gives the person diagnosed positively with the chance to defend against becoming diabetic by changing their lifestyle habits. This will include some things such as weight loss, and diet adjustments

Article by Amy Stephens

I’m Deborah Susan, a dietician and personal trainer specializing in nutrition, physical fitness and diabetic food plan for diabetics. Over the years I’ve noticed a trend in the questions that diabetics and their family members have been asking. Also, many of my clients had often suggested I not let my knowledge and experience go waste; instead, I should write a book that would help society cope and live a healthy life despite diabetes. A friend recently suggested I start with an article and if I like the response I could write a book.

Although many have said I have a way with words, I must state that I am not a writer or author and have until today, never written so much as an article let alone a book. I’ve decided to take the plunge primarily because I have seen intense and unnecessary suffering caused by wrong information, phobia, misguidance and myths. Lack of proper guidance and knowledge ultimately proves expensive in more ways than can be imagined.

In writing these article, it is my ardent desire to provide useful, practical knowledge (including a few low fat desserts for diabetic) to help people living with diabetes to make decisions that enable them to live successfully with diabetes.

To begin with, although 99% of you probably already know what diabetes is, I’d like to define it precisely so that at the end of this first article, we are all on the same page and do not have differing ideas on what diabetes is.

What is diabetes?

Diabetes is a condition in which your body cannot control the level of glucose (sugar) in your blood because (a) your pancreas (not kidneys) does not produce enough insulin or (b) your body cells are resistant to the action of insulin, that’s why we take insulin syringes.

When your blood glucose level rises, the glucose cannot get into the cells which means despite all the sugar, your body is deprived of energy. Lack of energy triggers the break down and conversion of fat and muscles into alternate source of energy. Always prefer to use diabetic test strip for checking your glucose level regularly

What goes wrong in diabetes?

Since the Glucose in your blood does not get utilized, it gets flushed out through urine. Meanwhile the body breaks down fat and muscle as an alternate energy source causing rapid (and dangerous) weight loss. Rapid break down of fat causes build up of toxic chemicals in your blood. If left unattended, all organs in the body begin to deteriorate and fail, ultimately leading to death – and a painful one at that.

Type 1 Diabetes

Myth: Diabetes begins with Type 1 and then progress to Type 2

Truth: Wrong! Type 1 and Type 2 are two totally different types of diabetes

People diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes do not produce any insulin. They need to be treated with insulin given by diabetic syringes & injection or via Diabetes Insulin Pump. (Insulin via a tablet would not be effective as it would be destroyed in the digestion process).

Type 2 Diabetes

This is the more common form of diabetes. Obesity is the primary reason for Type 2 diabetes. People diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes do not produce sufficient quantities of insulin. Initially your pancreas respond to the demand (created by obesity), by producing more insulin. However, it cannot do so indefinitely. Corrective action includes reducing body fat by checking through body fat monitor and leading a healthier lifestyle. If corrective action is taken soon enough, then people suffering from Type 2 diabetes need not take any medication such as glucose tablets or diabetes nutritional supplements and can lead a healthy normal life. Failure to take corrective action will create a need for insulin injections to supplement the inadequate quantum of insulin produced by your pancreas.

Myth: Type 1 diabetes is serious

Truth: Yes and No. However Type 2 likely to be more harmful because people often have it for years before being diagnosed. Having it for years can lead to long term complications.

Now that we know what diabetes is, in my next article I shall attempt to answer the second most frequently asked question: Why does diabetes develop?

I hope my effort in writing these articles helps you lead a more knowledgeable and healthier life.
